After a successful season in New Orleans, DeMarcus Cousins is set be a free agent this offseason. The Pelicans acquired Boogie and Omir Casspi via trade last year before the trade deadline, landing the Sacramento Kings Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, and the Pelican’s 2017 first & second round picks. Casspi suffered an injury in his first game on the Pelicans. Evans and Galloway didn’t stick around long for the Kings. Since then, the Pelicans have looked very promising with Cousins & Anthony Davis being the best front court in the league and Jrue Holiday playing at an all star level. But Boogie’s contract is up, where is he going? Here’s 3 teams I think he should go to.

New Orleans Pelicans

First, I have to mention the Pelicans. I honestly think he NEEDS to stay in NO because that’s his best chance to compete for a title. Also, I love Davis and Cousins. They meshed real well this season before Cousins went down with an achilles injury. Rondo can play his best when he has two of the greatest big men in the league to pass to and Holiday can focus on defending the perimeter. The Pelicans proved to be a very good team this year and they’re a piece away from being a true contender.

After Cousins went down with an injury, the Pelicans went out to get Mirotic who proved to be a vital piece. He stretches the floor for Davis to work down low and he’s a solid defender too, which is a bonus. Without Cousins, the Pelicans managed to shut down the Trail Blazers with a sweep, and cause the Warriors problems. Only problem for them was, they didn’t have an answer for Kevin Durant.

If Cousins stays with the Pelicans. All the Pelicans need is a 3 & D wing like Trevor Ariza or an athletic wing like Jerami Grant, then they can move Mirotic and E’Twaun Moore to the bench. That sounds like a match up problem for both the Rockets and Warriors. They have big men who are athletic enough to play when teams go small ball, someone to guard KD and Harden, plus Mirotic and Moore who can drop double digits off the bench. I really want to see this happen and I think it’s very possible. So many lineups. They could even play big ball with Mirotic at SF from time to time. Let’s cross our fingers and hope this happens.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards are the second best fit for Cousins. They have the back court, they have the wings, they just need a big man. Gortat at this stage of his career is best as a back up center & Cousins is exactly what they need. They need a rebounder, they need someone to stretch the floor for John Wall to drive, they need someone who plays good defense inside and on the perimeter. Cousins is that.

The Wizards are probably looking to go through a rebuild, they’ve been doing the same thing for the past 5 or so years and it hasn’t worked. So if they don’t get Cousins, I don’t expect them to keep everyone. They will most likely trade their players for young assets and picks.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are a big man away from being a force in the east. They dumped Greg Monroe earlier in the season, and John Henson isn’t a star. They need a presence down low to balance the outside shooting, as well as the athletic ability of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Cousins can do that, and more.

The Bucks may be looking to sign and trade Jabari Parker, who doesn’t really fit the team. I also see them making some other moves too. Only players that they need to keep are Giannis, Khris Middleton, and Malcolm Brogdon.

Honorable Mentions

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Cavaliers snagging Cousins. They need him to match up against the Warriors. But cap is an issue.

The Spurs could use his wide skill set. Although I’m not sure if his attitude would fit the culture.

The Pacers with Oladipo could use Cousins too. Moving Myles Turner to the 4 spot.
