December 13th. We’re nearly midway in the count down for the New Year. For businesses, I believe this time is crucial and means being six steps ahead.

In quarter 4(the months of October, November, December) I try to make it a habit of thinking in April, May, June.

What will I want to accomplish by then? what will I want to be in the process of completing by then?

My uncle used to point up at skyscrapers during construction and say, β€œWhat did you build by the time they’re finished?”

It stuck with me ever since.

When we’re in the process of thinking in the moment, it’s great for on-demand execution and focus. When your mind is also processing the next season, and the possibility of your existence in that time, your in-the-moment processing power becomes MUCH stronger. Your will becomes indomitable. School teaches us this in the latter years of middle and high by delivering midterms and finals. These, throughout your years of education, are benchmarks, moments in the future you will need to be prepared for.

Which brings us to the most important topic of this discussion, Preparedness.

Seeing the future by preparing a vision board can start you on the path to your wildest dreams. Let’s begin one today. What do you wish to accomplish in the months of (Quarter 2) April, May, June – which will begin summer – and be in the process of completing by Quarter 3 and 4. Use pictures, images, music, conversations, to fill your head with the goal.

Now, preparation…

What are the steps to completing that goal?

I want to write a science fiction screenplay with the possibility of turning it into a feature length film. In the moment, I would put together the visions or references for my ideas, not looking into any structure or plot details. Only feeling. Theme. I’ll take those ideas and mold them into some sort of premise or loose blurb about my story, maybe even show them to a closed group of colleagues to hear their opinions. After which, I’ll research any scientific content revolving around my plot, take my data, and begin the first draft. If I start now, my time table should appear as follows:

  1. References & Synopsis ……………………………………… 1-month
  2. Research from internet, books, professionals ….2-months
  3. Outline …………………………………………………………………1-month (maximum)
  4. First draft …………………………………………………………… 2-months
  5. Final draft ………………………………………………………….. 1-1/2 months
  6. Polish ……………………………………………………………………1-1/2 months

Total … 9-MONTHS

This should carry us into July. The above steps of preparation were much necessary for the script to be as strong as possible. Now, if there’s a need for a science fiction screen play in my theme and make, I’d have prepared for the opportunity once it presented itself. Chosen or not, I am ready to move onto my next screenplay with better knowledge and incentive.

The next time you want to do something, be prepared and don’t wait. Always position your mind six steps ahead so that your moves today will be their strongest and longer lasting. Life is a shelter. You can continue to reinforce it, or watch it fall apart before your eyes.

Create a vision board for your future and map the plan. Ill be looking forward to seeing your results.

With confidence,

AJ
